Reading Week
Reading Week - Readathon
We have ran two Reading Weeks this academic year and both have been extremely successful. The first one focussed reading on a House competition the most recent one, at Easter, focussed on reading and raising money for charity. The academy took part in Readathon which is a scheme that raises money to buy books and host authors to visit sick children in hospital. Years 7 and 8 managed to raise two hundred pounds for this worthwhile cause which was fantastic for the first time completing this event. Two students went above and beyond in raising money for the Readthon and between them raised £80: Megan Spiers raised £30 and Somer Gilbert-McKee £50. To celebrate their efforts Mrs Bramwell-Smith contacted author Maz Evans of the celebrated Children’s book Who let the Gods out?. Maz sent both students a personalised and signed postcard which Mr Trow presented to Megan and Somer with a copy of the book and autographs in recognition of their achievements. Well done and thank you to Megan and Somer and to all students that took part in making the Readathon a success.
