Specialist Status

Sport and Health Specialism

In September 2008 Priory Lincoln Academy became a centre for sporting excellence within the county and are proud to be an Academy with a Sport and Health specialism.

We aim to:

  • raise attainment for all students, both in the specialist subjects and across the whole curriculum.
  • promote both excellence and participation in PE.
  • extend curricular, intra-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for all of our students.

Priory Lincoln Academy is playing an active part in the Government's strategy to raise sporting and academic achievement. We have been able to extend not only our range of sports but also the sports qualifications offered. Student leadership is viewed as an integral part of PE and Sport at Priory Lincoln Academy. As a Sports Leaders UK Leadership Academy our students have the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications (Level 1-3 Awards in Sports Leadership) and are given responsibility in several leadership capacities both within the Academy and also the wider community. The Sports College has superb state of the art facilities and the strong and well-qualified PE Department is complemented by full and part-time sports specific coaches in addition to a Community Sports Development Officer. Working closely with The Youth Sports Trust, we receive additional resources to support our work and benefit our students.

We have been selected as the host academy for the Government funded School Games Organiser programme; we support 44 primary schools with their competitions, school sport and PE provision. We offer opportunities for schools to attend competitions, we provide leadership for primary pupils, we offer CPD and twilight sessions for Primary staff and a whole range of other services that improve school sport and PE within The City of Lincoln School Sports Partnership. Through these services we aim to increase participation for children and young people, up-skill primary staff to provide high quality PE and allow primary pupil’s the opportunity to compete in a range of activities.

The Academy also continues to have excellent links with the local Community; each week more than 3,000 people use our Sports Centre for a wide range of activities, while our extremely successful Junior Learn to Swim Programme enables more than 500 local youngsters to receive high quality swimming lessons throughout the year. We are particularly proud of our links with Lincoln Vulcans Swimming Club, Lincolnshire County Cricket Board, Birchwood Colts JFC and Lincolnshire Football Association.
