French

‘Building powerful knowledge to grow confident & creative global citizens.’

At the Priory Lincoln Academy we are dedicated to developing global citizens of the future. Students develop knowledge and skills to communicate in French about themselves and the world around them.  A second language provides understanding beyond the practical purposes of communication. Having a good understanding in French builds capability in student language skills across all subjects. The cornerstones of listening, speaking, reading and writing in another language draw definite and helpful parallels with English grammar.  Students work hard learning the new vocabulary and enjoy the success of communicating in another language.

Our recovery curriculum supports students' academic progress by acknowledging potential missed learning opportunities, supporting student wellbeing and facilitating enrichment.  We continue to develop students resilience and sense of achievement fostering their ambition and celebrating their successes.

We are committed to ensuring that pupils with SEND can fulfil their potential and achieve their best. Differentiation is used to ensure that new learning is matched to the pupils needs while allowing all children to be stretched and challenged. The Individual Profiles and EHCP’s for SEND identify specific strategies of support and intervention to support individual learning needs. Planning and teaching is adapted so that the curriculum can meet individual learning needs so that personalised learning can take place.

Within French, all learners are supported in their memory retention of core vocabulary using chunking of content. This helps to avoid cognitive overload. Students use memory aids and lots of visual clues to support their learning of high frequency verbs. Teachers help to scaffold the creation of sentences in French and flexible groups helps children to practise speaking, listening, reading and writing in class along with grammatical rules such as those for masculine and feminine. PSA’s (pupil support assistants) are deployed as per individual learning plans. Technology is used to supplement learning at home and help students to work towards fluency.
